TOWN OF ELIZABETHTOWN Called Meeting November 15, 2001 The Elizabethtown Town Council met for a called meeting on Thursday, November 15, 2001 at 12:00 P.M. in the Elizabethtown Municipal Building. Those in attendance were Mayor Kenneth Kornegay, Mayor Pro Tem Sylvia Campbell, Council members Pat Devane, Herman Lewis, Dicky Glenn, Russell Priest, and Rufus Lloyd, Town Manager David Smitherman, Public Services Director Bobby Davis, Assistant Town Manager/Planning Director Ben Baxley, and Town Clerk Beverly M. Pait. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Kornegay. GREASE TRAP COMMITTEE Mayor Kornegay opened the floor for nominations from Council for individuals from the restaurant and business community to serve on a committee to work on the Grease Trap project. Council member Sylvia Campbell nominated Robin Summerlin of the Front Porch. Pat Devane nominated Pat Melvin of Melvins. The Mayor nominated Tommy Crowson of Carolina Masterfry Chicken. Council member Rufus Lloyd nominated Pervis McLaughlin of The Fish House. Next, Mayor Kornegay called for a nomination or volunteer from the Council members to serve on the committee. It was the general consensus of Council that Council member Pat Devane be appointed to serve on the committee. With all nominations made, Town Manager David Smitherman advised Council that he would contact the nominated parties to confirm their participation on the committee. SEWER AND WATER
REHABILITATION PROJECTS/WELL #5 PROJECT Mayor Kornegay called on Public Services Director Bobby Davis to present Council with his proposed sewer and water projects. Mr. Davis proceeded to locate, describe and discuss the cost of several needed areas of sewer and water rehabilitation. After brief discussion among Council regarding the various project areas, Town Manager David Smitherman went on to discuss the financial implications of taking on these projects. After discussion, it was the general consensus of Council to have the Town Manager proceed with examining financing options for the possible refinance of other outstanding obligations to include these projects. It was also the general consensus of Council to have the Public Services Director Bobby Davis to proceed with having camera work completed to assess and prioritize the areas of need, and to check into borrowing or splitting the cost of such equipment with other local Towns. __________________________________ Kenneth R.
