The Planning Department is responsible for the following:

·        Enforce Zoning and Subdivision regulations.

·        Issue Zoning Compliance Permits

·        Maintain and update Zoning Ordinance and Official Zoning Map

·        Review Sign Applications.

·        Review Subdivision Application and Plats along with other development plans (Site Plans) for compliance with development regulations

·        Prepare and update long range planning documents (Strategic Plan, Hazard Mitigation Plan, etc.)

·        Maintain the Town's Geographic Information System (GIS)

·        Provide Mapping Services

·        Assign physical addresses within the city limits and Extraterritorial Jurisdiction

·        Manage special projects (e.g. Downtown Enhancement Project, ETJ Extension, grant applications: DOT Enhancement and Urban and Community Forestry)

·        Manage processing of  rezoning, special use,   variance and appeals.

·        Respond to citizen complaints and inquiries associated with land use activities

·        Respond to citizen complaints concerning junked/abandoned vehicles and overgrown vegetation, refuse, etc.).

·        Serve as liaison to Planning Board, Zoning Board of Adjustment, and Technical Review Committee.

·        Serve as point of contact for Community Development Block Grant Program.

 Building Code Enforcement

The Bladen County Building Inspections Department handles the enforcement of the State Building Code for properties located in Elizabethtown and its extraterritorial jurisdiction; a representative from the department can be reached at (910) 862-6780.

Fire Code Enforcement

The Elizabethtown Fire Department enforces the fire code, Fire Chief Byron Graham can be reached at (910) 862-4586.
