- In order to alleviate
periodic flooding due to rain storms, the Town of Elizabethtown will begin
a drainage project in mid 2009. The project includes stormwater drains to
be installed at the intersection of Morehead and King streets and also at
the intersection of Morehead and Swanzy streets to alleviate standing water,
along with the burying of storm drain lines from Morehead/King to Morehead/Swanzy
and from that point east on Swanzy to Well # 2. The contractor is scheduled
to start this project as early as June 1, 2009. Citizens may experience some
delays in the vicinity of the project while construction is underway.
- Over the next few months,
Elizabethtown residents residing in Town and in the Elizabethtown Rural Fire
District may experience brief periods of discolored water. The Elizabethtown
Fire Department, Station 55, has begun its annual flow testing of fire hydrants.
The tests gauge the amount of water produced by the Towns firefighting
water system. The change in water pressure in the lines sometimes causes rust
and other substances to break free from the pipes. The debris is harmless,
but will discolor water for brief periods of time.
For more information, please contact the Fire Department at 862-4586.
