• The Elizabethtown Town Council will conduct a Special Called Meeting on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. in the Elizabethtown Municipal Building Council Chamber. The purpose of the meeting will be an open session to consider filling an existing vacancy on Town Council.

    Effective June 2, 2008, Byron Graham was named the new Fire Chief for the Town of Elizabethtown. Prior to serving as Interim Fire Chief, Mr. Graham has been employed with the Elizabethtown Fire Department since November 1998.

  • The Town of Elizabethtown has announced the hiring of Edwin "Eddie" H. Madden, Jr., a native of Cashiers, N.C., to the position of Town Manager. Mr. Madden received his Masters of Public Administration (MPA) from Western Carolina University and brings with him experience in town government, county government, and Real Estate Broker licenses in N.C., S.C., and Georgia. He has served on the Jackson County Board of County Commissioners and presently serves on the N.C. Board of Community Colleges and N.C. Board of Landscape Architects. He is a former member of the Southwestern Community College and the Jackson County Airport Authority. Mr. Madden has been described as "an energetic leader with a reputation of getting things done". He and his wife, Dawn, have three children: Jacqueline (9), Elliott (7), and Abigail (5). Mr. Madden will assume his role as Town Manager on Monday, February 25, 2008.
